Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) today said the 18-day-old strike by workers at its Chennai plant has been called off with immediate effect and normal production will resume from tomorrow.
"The illegal strike by HMIL workers has been called off and a common consensus between the management and the striking workers has been arrived at to the mutual satisfaction of both parties," HMIL Corporate Communications Head Rajiv Mitra said.
He said according to the agreement, the company will be taking back 20 out of 75 of its suspended workers.
"All the workers will report back to us immediately and production is expected to be normal from tomorrow," he said.
Earlier, the Hyundai Motor India Employees Union went on indefinite strike since April 20. Due to the strike, daily production at the facility was affected up to four per cent.
This week, around 500 employees of HMIL went on a sudden indefinite fast, protesting the alleged absence of management representatives in a conciliatory meeting to end the strike at the Sriperumbudur unit.
Earlier, the strike notice was issued on March 18, 2009.
