PC shipments in India for the Q2 (April-June) 2014 rebounded backed by strong growth shown in the commercial as well as consumer segments.
According to research firm IDC, a total number of 2.55 million units were shipped in the Q2 of 2014, a growth of 23.6 per cent over the previous quarter with a solid backing from commercial PC (both desktop as well as notebook) segment which grew 34.5 sequentially.
During the same time, the consumer PC market recorded 1.16 million units, a quarter-on-quarter growth of 12.8 per cent over the January-March quarter of 2014.
The research firm said the revival in the PC demand is primarily happening owing to a mark recovery in the economy following a clear mandate during the last Lok Sabha election. It also said that the business prospects are expected to remain moderately better in the coming six months..
"The overall sentiments have picked up and IDC observes improved discretionary spending from consumers across devices. It is expected to have a positive influence on the market as we enter the festival season starting Onam," said Manish Yadav, Market Analyst, Client Devices, IDC India. The retail and online acceptance of new product category such as Bing SKU facilitated growth this quarter, he added.
In terms of vendor share, Hewlett-Packard regained the top slot in the Indian PC market with a market share of 29.5 per cent during the quarter. Dell which held number one position in the previous quarter, sipped to second slot with a share of 19.1 per cent.
"HP's execution of large education deals in Tamil Nadu ensured the growth in commercial business. They were equally supported with the growth in their consumer business too. Price competitiveness and well spread partner coverage across the country has been HP's key strength," IDC India release, said.
