12 mtpa plant in Jharkhand: A 12 million tonne a year greenfield integrated steel plant will be set up in two phases. The first phase of 6 million tonne a year is expected to be set up within 36 months to 54 months from the date of obtaining all statutory clearances. The total cost of the greenfield expansion is estimated at Rs 40,000 crore. 6 mtpa plant in Orissa: MoU signed with Orissa for setting up a 6 million tonne integrated steel plant. The project is to be executed in two phases at an estimated Rs 15,400 crore. 5 mtpa plant in Chhattisgarh: MoU inked with the state government for setting up a 5 million tonne plant in the Bastar region. The plant will be developed in two phases, with 2 million tonne in the first phase. |

PROPOSED VENTURES Metallic coating and painting steel unit: The company entered into a 50:50 joint venture with BlueScope Steel in November 2005. 1.2 mtpa Metcoke project in West Bengal: The company is setting up an 8,00,000 tonne a year merchant coke oven plant at Haldia. The envisaged cost of phase one for 0.8 mt of coke and 60 mw of power is around Rs 700 core. Deep sea port in Dhamra, Orissa: The company has forged a 50-50 joint venture with Larsen & Tubro to develop the Dhamra Port, an all-weather deep water port for handling bulk cargo. Titanium Dioxide project in Tamil Nadu: Tata Steel will invest Rs 2,000 crore in its titanium dioxide plant in Tuticorin and Tirunelveli districts. |
