Sun Micro to tap Gujarat SMBs

Targets $10 million worth of IT market share in the country.
 
Software developer and solution provider Sun Microsystems India Pvt Ltd is planning to foray in a major way into the Gujarat IT market targeting the untapped small and medium businesses (SMB) segment.
 
Talking to Business Standard, Venkatesh Krishnan, director of regional sales, Sun Microsystems India , said, " Gujarat is one of the potential markets for the company as the state is a major industrial hub in the country. As per a study by the company, the total Indian IT market is worth $5.4 billion of which Gujarat's IT market constitutes $50 million.
 
"Of the $50 million, we expect to garner $10 million worth of IT market share," said Krishnan. He further added that the company expected 40 per cent revenue share coming from its initial estimated target of $10 million.
 
The company plans to establish an all-round presence in Gujarat for achieving this. It has already started recruiting staff and has finalised its offices in Gujarat.
 
Speaking on the revenue model of the company, he said the company would have a simple revenue generation model for the SMBs. Sun Microsystems will charge based on per employees that are employed by the SMB unit. Explaining the model, he said that if an SMB has only 100 employees then a rate of $120 would be charged per employee.
 
The company is targeting the healthcare, retail sector and the traditional manufactures in this space in the state. "We will make our entry into Gujarat before the end of third quarter," said Krishnan.
