Sunil Hi-Tech Engineers (Shel), a Nagpur-based diversified construction company, has proposed a Rs 150-crore expansion plan in the coming years.

Sunil Gutte, director, said that the company needs a balance sheet of bigger size as it planned to take up power projects of 1 mw to 60 mw capacity independently on an engineering, procurement & construction basis. There are various options to raise funds. But all are at an initial stage, said Gutte.

The current requirement is to meet the working capital needs, as the company plans to bid for two 500 mw power projects of the Maharashtra State Power Generation Corporation (MSPGC) at Khaperkheda and Bhusawal. It also has two 250 mw projects at Parli and Paras. The company is bidding for all the above projects and will attempt to bag maximum packages in them, said Gutte.

He added that they have a decade-old working relationship with MSPGC (MSEB) and might bag more orders from MSPGC.

"There is an acute shortage of power generation throughout the country. In the 11th plan, the planning commission of the power ministry has envisaged an additional requirement of 100,000 mw to the present generation capacity till the year 2012. This will obviously result in increased business for us," said Gutte.

In the year ended March 2005, Shel had earned a turnover, of Rs 70 crore, which has within the first six months of the current year reached Rs 60 crore. With a strong order book position of Rs 254 crore, which has to be completed by 2007, the company hopes to achieve an over Rs 100-crore turnover in 2005-2006 while by March 2007, it hopes to garner Rs 200 crore.

Apart from taking up orders from the Maharashtra government, Shel has also built power plants for Bhel, NTPC, Reliance Energy and the state electricity board of Rajasthan.

The company has started constructing a thermal power plant for Reliance Energy in Haryana, which will be worth Rs 11.04 crore and have a capacity of 300 mw unit. It will be completed by July next year.

Shel will also be constructing a 210 mw unit worth Rs 10.48 crore for the electricity board of Madhya Pradesh.
