Sunil Mittal appointed vice chairman of Int'l Chamber of Commerce

Mittal is the third business person from India to be appointed to this position after Hari Shankar Singhania and Dr Bharat Ram

Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises has been appointed as the vice chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Mittal is the third business person from India to be appointed to this position. The ICC World Council elected the new ICC leaders at a meeting held in Doha, Qatar, Bharti said in a statement.

The past Chairmen of ICC from India included late Hari Shankar Singhania (1993-1994) and late Dr Bharat Ram (1969-1971), who was also the first Indian to be appointed as the Chairman of the ICC Executive Board.

Mittal said, “ICC is playing an important role in driving global economic growth by reducing barriers to trade and economic opportunity. I look forward to working with the distinguished members of the ICC towards taking forward this agenda and addressing the needs of the international business community.”

He is also a member of other international bodies such as – Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Reuters Editorial Advisory Board, Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council, Telecom Board of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the leading UN Agency and also a Commissioner of the Broadband Commission at ITU.
