Mumbai-based Sunshield Chemicals Ltd has bagged a five-year contract from the German chemical giant Altana Chemie AG to supply electrical enamel insulation material. The company expects an additional business of Rs 100 crore from the tie up in the next five years.

"We have been working with Altana for the last two years and after several tests and trials in India and abroad, Altana has approved our products, manufacturing practices and the safety standards at our Nagothane factory," said Satish Kelkar, managing director,Sunshield.

The contract involves manufacturing of electrical enamels. These are used for coating copper cables used in power transmission to ensure that the current passing through various wires does not create a short circuit.

"This is a sort of a business process outsource (BPO) contract signed in the chemical industry as Altana would be using our product to meet their global demand," said Kelkar.

Sunshield is a Atul Choksey group company and has a turnover of around Rs 30 crore. He added that Sunshield, which is a leading manufacturer of antioxidants and surfactants, is also working with Altana to develop other products in the same catagory required for coating mobile and computer circuits.
