Surya Vinayak Industries Ltd, which is all set to launch its sandalwood and sandalwood oil-based skincare products under the brand name Lambency, is also planning to enter the healthcare segment by introducing a sandalwood oil tablet to contain and cure blood pressure. |
Company officials said clinical trials for the product are in progress. Once the clinical trials are complete, Surya Vinayak Industries will file an application with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) to certify the product. It will be after the ICMR certification that the company will file a patent for the product. |

"We have drawn up plans to enter the healthcare segment. It is a well-documented fact that sandalwood has anti-bacterial, anti pyretic and other properties," said Sudhir Sharma, general manager, marketing. |
Sharma said while other drugs merely contain blood pressure, keeping it under permissible limits, sandalwood actually cures the problem without any side effect. |
"The sandalwood tablet will be a revolutionary product once it is developed," said Sharma. The pill is likely to be introduced in the market in two or three years. |
Commenting on the September-October 2004 launch of skincare products under the Lambency brand, Sharma said the company should be able to garner sales of around Rs 10 crore in the remaining part of the fiscal year. |
"We are in the process of appointing around 300 distributors across the country, who will provide Lambency products to up to 60,000 retail outlets," said Sharma. |
The company will launch face packs, scrubs and skin cream prepared in sandalwood base, along with rose water. |
