Suzlon announces 168.5 MW of new orders in India

Wind turbine manufacturer, Suzlon Energy, today announced new orders for developing 168.5 megawatt (MW) wind turbine capacity. Most of these are repeat orders and have come from the corporate and small and medium business segments as well as public sector undertakings (PSU). These orders have come on the back of the Techno group’s order of 202 MW on September 21 and the Altrade group’s order of 30 MW on September 3.

The largest order has been placed by Gujarat State Fertilizer & Chemicals (GSFC) for 33 MW. This is the fourth repeat order to Suzlon from the Group which, upon completion, will increase the GSFC Group’s wind power portfolio to a total of 77 MW.

KSK Energy Ventures’ Sai Regency Power, has placed an order of 18.9 MW for a project to be set-up in the Tirunelvelli district of Tamil Nadu. The power generated from the project will be utilized for captive consumption.

Narbheram Vishram, a Kolkata-based company in the mining business with diversified interests in steel and wind power, has also placed a repeat order of 15 MW with Suzlon for a project at their Akal site in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. The power generated will be purchased by the state power distribution utility under a long term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Gujarat-based, diversified business conglomerate, The Friends Group, has also placed a repeat order for a 12.6 MW project to be set-up in Rajasthan. The power generated from this project, too, will be purchased by the state power distribution utility under a long-term PPA.

Orders from G N Agrawal, a Goa-based company in iron-ore mining business with diversified interests in real estate and wind power and cement major, Ambuja Cement are also repeat orders. G N Agrawal has placed an order of 10.5 MW for projects to be set-up in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. And the Ambuja Cement 7.5 MW order is for a project, to be set-up in the Kutch district of Gujarat for captive purpose.

There are also first-time orders such as the one from Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) for 6 MW project in Gujarat. The order comprises of four units of the S82-1.5 MW turbine and the power generated will be purchased by the state power distribution utility under a long-term PPA.

On the receipt of the orders, Tulsi R. Tanti, founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Suzlon said, “Our India business is roaring ahead. The diversification of the sector – from PSUs, IPPs and captive consumers – sets a solid foundation for our industry. We remain very optimistic about our home market and the orders we announce today from these prestigious customers are further evidence of that.”

After announcing the orders, Suzlon’s shares were trading at Rs 58.50, gaining Rs 0.25 or 0.43 per cent from its previous close. The overall Sensex however, was down 151.89 points or 0.74 per cent at 20,345.
