Wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy today said the company has appointed Silas Zimu as country Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for its new South African Operations.
"Silas Zimu is a fantastic appointment for us. With 19 years in South Africa's power sector he understands business like nobody else in the country," Suzlon Chairman and Managing Director Tulsi Tanti said in a statement.
"Silas' experience is second to none and he shares with us the vision for a greater tomorrow. This announcement today underscores our belief that South Africa has huge wind potential, along with our intention to play a major role in bring that to fruition," Tanti said.
Zimu until was Managing Director of City Power, the leading power utiltiy. He was appointed to that role in 2007 and previously held positions there in planning and technology, customer services and operations, the company statement said.
Pune-based Suzlon has been ranked third leading wind turbine supplier in terms of market share in 2009. The company has its presence across Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America.
