Wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon has bagged a contract to develop a wind farm with 45 turbines for the Australian utility major Australia Gas Light (AGL). The farm will have a capacity to generate 95 MW power.

According to a company press release, the contract which envisages design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the wind farm, is valued at Rs 620 crore.

Suzlon Energy Australia (SEA) a subsidiary company of Suzlon Energy A/S of Aarhus, Denmark has bagged the contract. The contract also includes maintenance and service of the turbines for five years.

Suzlon will install 45 units of its S-88 - 2.1 MW wind turbines at AGL's Hellet Wind farm located on Brown Hills range, 220 km north of Adelaide.

Sydeny, NSW-based AGL is a major retailer of natural gas and electricity. The company has three million customers across Australia.

Pune-headquartered Suzlon Energy Ltd (SEL) will supply the wind turbines to its Australian associate. SEL has clarified that the Australian order was included in the 'orders on hand' disclosed at the time of announcing the third quarter results for 2005-06.

Thus the present announcement will have no impact on the company's revenue expectations for the year.

SEL has reported sales of Rs 871.04 crore for the quarter ended 31 December 2005, 207 per cent higher than the same period in 2004. The profit after tax for the quarter was Rs 161.94 crore which was 334 per cent higher against the corresponding quarter in 2004.
