Suzlon Group inks pact for 131 MW wind farm project in Australia

Suzlon Group-subsidiary, REpower Systems SE, has signed a $268 million contract with Meridian Energy Limited to supply 64 MM 92 wind turbines, each with 2.05 MW of rated power, to the Mt Mercer wind farm.

The Mt Mercer wind farm project is based in Victoria, Australia, located approximately 30 km south of Ballarat. 

This is REpower’s first contract with Meridian Energy and the company’s largest ‘supply & install’ contract for its MM series turbines in Australia to date. The wind turbines are scheduled to be installed and commissioned between September, 2013 and January, 2015.

Speaking about the contract, Chris Judd, CEO, REpower Australia said, “Being awarded this contract during our ‘10 years in Australia’ celebrations underscores REpower Australia’s longstanding commitment to the Australian wind energy industry and the opportunities presented by the renewable energy target which will deliver around 7 GW of new wind generating capacity in Australia by 2020.”
