This is GAIL's third wind energy project order placed with Suzlon.
Suzlon Energy Limited, the wind turbine supplier, announced its third consecutive order from GAIL--the gas utility company, and one of the Navaratna public sector undertakings of the Government of India.
The order comprises of 17 units of Suzlon's S82 - 1.5 MW wind turbines, to be commissioned in Karnataka in 2012. This is GAIL's third wind energy project order placed with Suzlon. GAIL's previous two projects are located in Gujarat. The first 4.5 MW project, comprising Suzlon's S-82 1.5 MW wind turbines, was commissioned in March 2010, and the second 14.7 MW project is currently under execution.
These two projects cater to fulfill GAIL's captive power requirements.
The new project, in the state of Karnataka, will sell the power generated to a local power distribution company under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) at the fixed preferential feed-in tariff.
