Wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy today won a five-month battle with Areva to acquire Germany's REpower.This will give Suzlon a 15% share of the world's wind-turbine market and make the 4th largesst player in the world.Late last evening, Areva, the world's biggest maker of nuclear power plants, withdrew from the race clearing the way for Sulzon.The company said it expects an initial cash outflow of about euro 250 million ($335 million) to pay for its successful bid."We have already invested euro 100 million ... another 100-150 million euro is required," Tulsi Tanti, chairman & managing director, Suzlon said at a news conference.Suzlon said the acquisition would give it access to the European market and to 5-MW offshore turbine technology, an expertise it lacked.According to a release issued by Suzlon to the BSE today, the company and Areva signed a binding agreement governing a framework regarding the company and Areva's shareholding in REpower.As per the agreement, Areva agrees to vote in accordance with Suzlon's proposals subject to customary minority protection. Further, Areva is also granted a guaranteed exit of its 30% shareholding in REpower at its discretion, the release added.
