Waiting for food in a restaurant is certainly one thing people don’t like. But in this restaurant, the food wait is unlikely to offend you , even if you have to wait for hours till your order is delivered.
It is not because of the quality of food going to be served here but the tablets offered to you to select your ‘order for the day’ which would keep you occupied.
The Chandigarh Ashok, an ITDC Ashok-Alliance hotel near Chandigarh, has placed 25 tablets in its restaurant which would be given to the visiting customers to make them comfortable.
Bharat Rattan Grover, managing director of the hotel, is the brain behind the decision of replacing hard-cover menus with the user-friendly tablets.
Explains Bharat Grover, “When I visited Mumbai earlier this year, I got a chance to come across such a concept in one of the hotels in the city.” Enthused over the concept, Grover decided to have it introduced in The Chandigarh Ashok hotel here.
Required permissions have been taken from the management and from this week the visitors to the restaurant would start enjoying experience of this new concept.

Explains F&B Manager of the hotel, Anand Kaushik, “The idea of replacing menus with tablets works in two ways, while the cost of reprinting hard menu orders is saved, the tablet remains in sync with the changing technology.”
“We have to change menu after six months as the items in the menu book keep on changing. It would be easier to change the menu on tablets and would save costs incurred on replacing menu books.”
Another likeable feature of having a tablet as per Kaushik is; the person, after having placed his order on the tablet, could use the same to access internet and play games.
In the first phase, the tablet would just have the option of selecting menu items from the tablet.
Anand Kaushik says, “Once the idea works, then, in the coming years, a person could directly place an order from the tablet. But this innovation would require time as the focus right now would be to see the response tablets generates among the visitors.”
