Tata - Fiat's Ranjangaon plant crosses 2 lakh powertrains mark

Fiat India Automobiles Ltd(FIAL), a 50-50 joint venture between the Fiat Group Automobiles S. p. A and Tata Motors Limited, has rolled out the 200,000th powertrain engine from its Ranjangaon plant in Pune, which started manufacturing power trains since July, 2008.

Ranjangaon plant has also produced 110000 car units which include both Tata and Fiat branded cars. Tata Motors manufactures its hatchback, Indica, and its newly launched sedan Indigo Manza. Fiat India manufactures two hatches, Palio and Punto and the Linea sedan.

FIAL’s Ranjangaon facility is among largest powertrain manufacturing plants of Fiat anywhere in the world. The plant was built to manufacture engines for Tata and Fiat cars as well as for exporting engines to other Fiat facilities across Europe.

"Our partnership with Fiat is a win - win for both parties. Fiat’s powertrain engines are powering the new generation Tata cars, additionally; the engines are also being exported to other countries which indicate that India could really be developed as a hub for the manufacture of technologically advanced engines," said R. Ramakrishnan, vice president- commercial (passenger car business), Tata Motors.

The remarkable figure of 200000 engines in a short span of time is a testament to the commitment of both the partners and to the tireless efforts of the team which has worked to make this a world-class facility," said Gurpratap Boparai, vice president – power train technologies, FIAL.

The facility at Ranjangaon is capable of producing 200,000 cars and 300,000 engines, besides 300,000 parts & accessories.It is currently manufacturing the Palio Stile, Linea and the Grande Punto. The facility also manufactures Fiat’s successful 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engines and 1.2 & 1.4 litre Fire gasoline engine.

The investment in this Ranjangaon facility already exceeds 650 million euros ( around Rs 4000 crore) . The plant provides direct and indirect employment to more than 4,000 people.
