Tata Global Beverages eyes 8 % revenue growth in tea business

Tata Global Beverages Ltd is eyeing 7-8 per cent growth in revenue in its tea segment in 2010-11 which is the key growth driver of the company's overall revenue.

"Tata Global Beverages' revenue stands at around Rs 5000 crore and we are looking 7-8 per cent growth in revenue in the tea segment which is the major revenue driver. We are the dominant market leader in the country's tea industry with a share of 20 per cent and we have been the market leader since 2003. The size of the domestic tea industry is estimated at around Rs 8000 crore and stands 650 million kg per annum in volume terms”, said Sushant Dash, vice president (marketing) of Tata Global Beverages Ltd.In the Orissa market, Tata Tea has a market share of 60 per cent.

He declined to comment on the company's revenue projection for 2010-11.Asked on the company's business in coffee and mineral water, he said, “In these segments, we have a rather small presence in the market but we would like to scale it up. We are also exploring options to introduce other products like soft drinks.”The company on Friday re-launched the Tata Premium brand in the city.Speaking at the re-launch, Dash said, “In every two to three years, we need to say something new to our customers. In the past two years, the input costs of tea making have witnessed an appreciation of 35-40 per cent but unlike some other tea brands, we have not compromised on the quality. The Tata Tea Premium brand has achieved leadership brand by providing superior value to the customers. The intent of the re-launch is to take this brand .”
