Punjab committee to fast-track Tatas' projects in state

Group to invest in infrastructure, hotel chains, housing projects among others

Tata Group Chairman Cyrus P Mistry met Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Amritsar on Saturday to discuss investment in the state. The chief minister assured Mistry his government would “act fast” on development projects and announced the setting up of a high-level committee under the chief secretary to discuss the Tatas’ investment proposals.

This was Mistry’s second visit to the state and his third meeting with the chief minister in less than six months. Mistry has also met Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal twice during this period.

Mistry said the the Group would invest in coming infra structure projects in the state. He said the Tatas were already working on housing projects in Chandigarh, Mohali and Ludhiana and was planning hotel projects in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Mohali. Tata Realty And Infrastructure Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, is set to inaugurate its first mixed-use commercial project, Trilium, in Amritsar with an investment of Rs 510 crore.

Mistry said the Group was keen in helping the state’s intiatives in education, healthcare and e-governance.
