Tata Motors launches mini-truck ACE in MP

To take on Piaggio, Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj in the below one-tonne light commercial cargo vehicle market of Madhya Pradesh, Tata Motors has launched the four-wheeler mini-truck ACE.
 
The ACE is India's first indigenously developed mini truck in this segment. Against the 750-kg cargo load capacity of LCVs of other makers, the ACE can carry 805 kg; similarly, its gross vehicle weight is 1,550 kg, against a maximum of 1,350 kg of other makers.
 
The company also has plans to enter into passenger vehicle in the similar segment. "We are setting up a plant in Uttaranchal for the production of cargoes and passenger LCVs in sub 1-tonne capacity," said Prem K Verma, head of the Sales and Marketing Light Commercial Vehicles and Small Commercial Vehicles. He, however, refused to divulge details on investment and capacity of the plant but said, "We have sold 42,000 units of ACE since its launch in May 2005. The response is encouraging."
 
"We are focusing on our dealers' network to post sales figures of 500 trucks a month within three years of time At present we have 35 dealers in Madhya Pradesh, soon we will expand our network to Chhattisgarh market," Verma told to Business Standard.
 
He launched the vehicle today in the markets of Madhya Pradesh. Tata ACE is powered by a two-cylinder 16 bhp 700 cc diesel engine. "ACE is suitable for rural and urban areas," Verma added.
 
The ACE has an all-steel cabin with car-like features, including elegant two-tone seats, clear instrument cluster, utility trays, magazine pockets, twin-speed wipers and combination switches.
 
It carries a 36,000-kilometer/12 month warranty backed by spares and sales service.
 
Madhya Pradesh offers potential to sub 1-tonne cargo market, particularly in whole-sellers' markets, grain merchants, movers and packers.
 
"It cost-effectiveness is evident from its features and fuel efficiency (22-Km to a liter), a funded ACE not only can be a source of income but the owner can repay loan installments comfortably," said Verma.
