Tata Motors launches Movus at Rs 6.99L

Movus is essentially a rebadged Sumo Grande with added engineering changes

Tata Motors, India's biggest automotive company, today slashed the price of one of its utility vehicles by almost Rs 100,000 and launched it under a new badge.

The Mumbai-based company launched today the Movus, a multi-seater utility vehicle in the market at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is essentially a rebadged Sumo Grande with added engineering changes.

The company has been phasing out the Sumo Grande (priced at Rs 7.96 lakh) from the market for the past few months as it is slated to be replaced by the Movus. The Sumo Gold, which was launched last year will remain as the entry UV of the company priced at Rs 6.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, BS4).

The company had launched the upgraded version of the Sumo under the brand Sumo Grande in 2008. It launched a improved version of the vehicle in 2010. However demand for it remained muted despite several attempts by the company to revive sales.

Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "The all-new Movus is a proposition for large families as it is spacious, easy to maintain, economical for both short and long distances, delivering great value without compromising on comfort. The vehicle is commercially available at dealerships located in metros and select cities."

Movus is powered by a 2.2L engine, delivering peak power of 120 PS and torque of 250 Nm. As per the company the Movus delivers a mileage of 15.16 kms/litre, The vehicle also has a large fuel tank of 65 litres and high load carrying capability. The vehicle will come in seating options of 7,8 and 9 configurations with front facing, side-facing and captain seats.
