Tata Motors today said it had no plans to scale down commercial vehicle production in the near future despite a slump in the market.

"We are not looking at cutting production in the near future and have not done so in the July-August period," said Ravi Pisharody, Tata Motors executive director, commercial vehicles.

He was responding to a query in the wake of flat growth reported by the company in the commercial vehicle segment last quarter.

Meanwhile, the company launched Tata Xenon, a pick-up vehicle here today. Priced between Rs 5.44 lakh and Rs 6.34 lakh (ex-showroom Thane), the company claimed that Xenon has one of the lowest operating costs and will help expand its footprint in the pick-up vehicles segment.

The Xenon offers both single cab and dual cab versions, with best-in-class looks, operating economics and fuel efficiency and is suitable for a wide range of commercial applications, the company said.

Launching the vehicle, Pisharody said, "The pick-up segment is growing rapidly and we see this trend continuing. With the launch of Xenon, we are strengthening our existing pick-up portfolio."
