Tata Motors showcases new models, concepts at Auto Expo

Expanding its product portfolio in the sports utility and commercial vehicles segments, auto major Tata Motors today showcased three new models slated for launch in the next financial year.

At the 11th Auto Expo held here, the company also displayed four concept cars equipped with alternate fuel technology, based on existing platforms. These were the Tata Nano CNG, Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid, Tata Starbus Fuel Cell and Tata Indica Magic Iris CNG.

In the SUV segment, the company displayed the new 'Safari Strome' model. It also showcased the 'Tata Ultra' truck range and 5-axle truck Tata LPT 3723.

"With the Safari Strome, Safari becomes a contemporary SUV suited to the desires of today's SUV lovers. The ultra range and the LPT 3723 will create new segments and generate higher incomes for their owners," Tata Motors (India Operations) Managing Director P M Telang told reporters.

The firm plans to launch these vehicles in the market by next financial year, he added.

Powered by a 2.2-litre, 16-valve diesel engine, the Tata Safari Strome is a four-wheel drive vehicle, while the Tata Ultra truck range comprises a series of variants with 5 to 14-tonne capacity and powered by 16-valve diesel engines.

The Tata LPT 3723 is a 5-axle truck with a payload of 25 tonnes.

Talking about its concept models, the company said the Tata Starbus Fuel Cell has been developed with support from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the technology development and demonstration programme.

The company also displayed its Tata Pixel concept, which is based on the 'Nano'. This is a three-seater car with a length of over three metres.
