In its annual revenue requirement and tariff proposal submitted to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), Tata Power (D) has proposed increase in tariff to Rs 4.02 from Rs 3.69 per unit for the monthly consumption of 0-100 units; to Rs 6.72 from Rs 6.12 per unit for 101-300 units; and to Rs 11.04 from Rs 10.64 a unit for 301-500 units.
Tata Power D's competitor Reliance Infrastructure in its plea submitted last month had also pleaded for an average 5.26 per cent tariff hike for 2016-17 for the latter's three million consumers in Greater Mumbai.

When contacted, Tata Power (D) said the company would continue to offer the most competitive rates for all categories. MERC will soon convene a public hearing on Tata Power D's tariff proposal.
MERC in its order on Tata Power D's tariff proposal for 2015-16 had approved a 3.9 per cent increase in average tariff effective from June 1, 2015.
For commercial consumers with consumption up to 20 kW, Tata Power (D) has proposed increase in tariff to Rs 11.08 from the existing Rs 10.88 per unit, and to Rs 10.68 from Rs 10.03 per unit for 20-50 kW.
For consumers with consumption above 50 kW, the company has proposed to reduce tariff to Rs 12.22 from Rs 12.61 a unit. For industry consumers, Tata Power (D) has proposed an average 4.4 per cent increase in tariff. For consumers with monthly consumption below 20 kW, it has proposed to increase it to Rs 11.30 from Rs 10.35 a unit, while for consumers above 20 kW, it has been proposed to reduce to Rs 10.61 from Rs 10.84 per unit.
