Tata Power proposes lower electricity charges for Mumbai users

Charges for those consuming over 300 units and 500 units have been reduced by 7.7% and 8.4% respectively

Tata Power has given its multi-year rates proposal to the state electricity regulator, proposing lower charges for residential, commercial and industrial users in this city.

The proposal require approvals from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission and will cover the company's distribution network in Greater Mumbai. According to the proposal,  charges for home users consuming 0-100 units (Rs 2.62 a unit) and 100-300 units (Rs 4.56 a unit)  have been kept unchanged. Charges for those consuming over 300 units and 500 units have been reduced by 7.7 per cent and 8.4 per cent, respectively.

Tata Power's charges for both these slabs in the residential category are lower than the rates proposed by Reliance Infrastructure, BEST and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company. Even the wheeling charges proposed by Tata Power are lower than  the competition. Charges for low tension commercial users are being lowered by 2.5 per cent to 4.7 per cent  and for high- tension industrial and commercial users are being  lowered by 5.9 per cent and 6.2 per cent, respectively.
