The Tata Power Company (TPC), India's largest private power company has signed an EPC contract with Siemens Power Generation, Germany, and Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction of South Korea to bid for the ultra mega power projects. |
TPC has already announced its intention to bid for all the four projects for which EOIs have been invited so far. Of these, it has already submitted EOIs for all the four projects. |

It has already received the Request for Qualification documents for the pit-head Sasan project in Madhya Pradesh and the coastal Mundra project in Gujarat. |

The projects are expected to be awarded by June 2007. TPC recently announced that it would augment its generation capacity by 4500 Mw with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore. |

According to a Tata Power press release: "The EPC consortium of Siemens and Doosan Heavy Industries is a formidable one for the design and construction of power plants based on super critical technology required for such large sized units and will form the basis of Tata Power's bids for the Ultra Mega Power Projects." |

The Government of India has announced the implementation of five Ultra Mega Power Projects with two more on the anvil, through an international competitive bidding process. |

For Doosan, this will be its second foray into the Indian power following the Sipat stage-I project (3×660MW). Doosan is a worldwide leader in supre-critical steam power plants. |

Incidentally, this is the second such tie up with a foreign company by an Indian company interested in bidding for the ultra mega power projects. |

Earlier, the Bangalore based GMR Power had announced a tie-up with the Hong Kong-based China Light and Power to bid jointly for pit-head ultra mega power projects. |
