Tata Motors today said it will complete by the month-end an exhaustive check-up on the low floor CNG buses supplied to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), following several incidents of red and green buses catching fire.
"There has been some wear and tear. We have started exhaustive check-ups of these buses, which we believe, we will be able to do by January 31," Tata Motors President (Commercial Vehicle Business Unit) Ravi Pisharody said on the sidelines of the Auto Expo here.
The company has supplied about 950 low floor buses to the DTC, which is modernising fleet ahead of the Commonwealth Games to be held here later this year.
However, a number of smart-looking green and red coloured buses had caught fire, forcing the Delhi government to impose a penalty of Rs 4 crore on the supplier.
Tata Motors would also improve the preventive maintenance schedule for the DTC fleet supplied by it, Pisharody said.
He skirted the issue of penalty stating, "We are in talks with DTC on many issues. They are our valuable customers. These are matters of discussion between the customers and suppliers."
