TBWA, a leading advertising agency owned by Omnicom, is gearing up to strengthen its presence in India. The agency plans to replicate its success in China by introducing five new disciplines in the country. |
The major focus would be on areas such as lead generation, events, promotions, direct marketing, retail channel development and management, activation and audience development. |
"We are looking at possible acquisitions for retail activation and event management to start with," Keith Smith, president (international), TBWA Group told Business Standard. |
The company is also looking at bringing its full service interactive agency, Agency.com, to India in the near future. He added that bringing in more disciplines to India would ensure better creative work. |
"India is an important market and we see it becoming one of our top ten markets in the coming five years. 2008 is going to be a significant year in this regard," Smith said. |
Meanwhile, TBWA India has brought Shiv Sethuraman on board from Ogilvy Paris as the chief executive officer to oversee operations of both TBWA and Tequila brands in India. The company will go ahead with its expansion plans once Sethuraman takes charge in June. |
The company also plans to focus on establishing Tequila, its integrated marketing services division, in India. The company has been unable to replicate its international success in the Indian market following its launch in 2006. |
The company is, however, positive that with Sethuraman's expertise in digital media, Tequila would establish its identity as a leading interactive marketing services company. In India, Tequila offers a range of services, including creative, promotional, database-driven customer acquisition and relationship management, digital and direct marketing services to clients. |
"Tequila is a strong brand and the time is right for the brand to occupy its rightful place in the country," Sethuraman said. The company is also targeting business generated by newer categories across key segments like consumer goods and services. |
