IT Services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a tie-up with Chennai-based B-school Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), to launch a management programme on Business Analytics, a first of its kind initiative from both the partners. The effort is expected to address the growing demand in the segment, said a senior management official from TCS.
Considering the increasing demand for business analytics, TCS and LIBA have collaborated to design a management course that specialises in this segment to bridge the existing skill gap in the industry. This will be offered for full time and part time MBA (PGDM).
Fr P Christie S J, Director of LIBA said that while the institution will run the course, TCS was involved in designing the curriculum and would also provide support in expertise. The one-year course will be offered from the academic year 2017-18 and would initially have 30-35 seats allocated.
He said, "With its expertise, TCS will be able to add value to the students of LIBA. LIBA is the first B-School in India which is forging ahead in signing an agreement with TCS to offer Business Analytics as a specialisation for the full-time PGDM students". The demand-supply gap in the business analytics segment is wide and the segment is growing at 15 per cent. He added that the tie-up does not limit the placement of the students to TCS after the course is completed.
Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, vice president, Human Resources, TCS, said that huge job opportunities are getting created in the digital world and according to research firm IDC, by 2020, there would be a requirement of around 200,000 business data analysts and about 1 million data managers and data visualisers. India also needs to create the right talent.
One of the key highlights of the course is the 'Train the Trainer Program (TTT) Program', in which TCS specialists will train the faculty with the Industry knowledge. TCS designed courses will also comprise of one year Executive diploma in Business Analytics, to train experienced professionals through part time/weekend programs offered at the Institute.
This is the first attempt to work with an MBA college, to create managers. TCS has tied up with Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Tezpur, Assam for a one-year diploma course in analytics. It has also started a Masters programme in Big Data with four Universities this year. TCS has started its Academia collaboration for big data and analytics programme four years back and going forward it would look at more such tie-ups, he added.
