Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the software development division of Tata Sons, is setting up a global development centre in Melbourne, Australia, as part of its ongoing expansion plans in the Asia-Pacific region.
The proposed centre would employ up to 200 professionals including software engineers and system analysts, and would provide high-end technical support services to clients in the Asia-Pacific region.
The centre would be the first TCS global centre in the Asia-Pacific region, although the company has over 20 development centres in India and 15 centres in the US and Europe.

S Ramadorai, chief executive officer, TCS, said: "The setting up of the centre is part of the expansion plans of the company. We hope to increase the share of the business coming from the region and we see this as a unique opportunity to grow our client-base in Australia and in the Asia-Pacific region generally."
"Outsourcing is a new concept in Australia and we see tremendous potential for business due to this fact," he added.
Tata Consultancy Services has entered the Australian market around 13 years back and has a presence in the banking and financial services space. Some of its major clients include West Bank and National Australia Bank. TCS has also recently added ANZ Grindlays Bank as its client.
Currently around 10 percent or $60 million of TCS revenues are derived from the Asia-Pacific region comprising the Australia, Singapore and New Zealand markets.
