Robert D Daleo, executive vice-president and chief financial officer, Thomson Corporation, said about 500 professionals, including scientists, would be recruited in India. Out of which 250 would be employed in Hyderabad. |

The company has already acquired its second premises with a seating capacity of 600 in the city, enabling it to ramp up the headcount to 700 from the present 100 professionals. |

Thomson plans to hire 1,000 employees at its Hyderabad global delivery centre (GDC) by 2009, featuring the city as the second major base of the company's India operations. |

According to Daleo, Thomson has initiated the development of scientific research information keeping in view the new opportunities arising out of drug research and other scientific pursuits being under way across the globe. |

"India has a great concentration of knowledge workers and we want to tap it," he said citing similar reasons for ramping up the operations in the city. |

Hyderabad GDC, a multifunctional shared service centre, is working on multiple areas including finance and healthcare services. The company earned $7 billion in revenues posting, 8 per cent growth last year. |
