The Centre has included Tirupati in its Mission Cities under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The city would now get a facelift at a cost of Rs 2,223 crore.
A state-level monitoring committee of JNNURM met here today under the chairmanship of chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and approved the comprehensive city development plan for Tirupati, according to municipal administration and urban development minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.
Tirupati would get underground drainage, new parks and enhanced drinking water supply under JNNURM. About 50 modern buses would be added to cater to the needs of pilgrims, the minister said.
Four Mission Cities – Greater Hyderabad, Greater Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati – would get 1540 modern buses under its Urban Transportation Plan. The first lot of buses would come to Hyderabad in two months.
