Toronto-based Celestica Inc, a $8.8-billion electronics contract manufacturing company, seeks to establish a supplier base in Hyderabad with plans to invest over $100 million.

The Andhra Pradesh government has agreed to help the company in locating the said supplier base by inviting electronics component manufacturers from Taiwan and other countries to locate their units at Hyderabad.

Keeping bigger plans in mind, the company has acquired Ramnish Electronics Private limited, a $4-million small-scale electronic component manufacturing company located at Jeedimetla Industrial Area (IDA) on the city outskirts.

Celestica's business representative Andrew Cooper, along with Raminder Singh Soin, managing director of Ramnish Electronics, today met chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy here and explained to him their immediate and medium-term plans for Hyderabad.

Officials close to the development said that the government responded positively to extend all help in establishing a supplier base as intended by Celestica and also agreed to exempt stamp duty for the acquisition of a 2-acre plot beside the existing unit in Jeedimetla IDA for the purpose of its expansion.

Andrew Cooper told the officials that the company is going to invest over $8 million in the expansion of Ramnish Electronics' facility.

APInvest, which was constituted exclusively to attract investments to the state, would be roped in and meet electronic component manufacturers identified by Celestica in Taiwan and other countries, officials told Business Standard.

The financial details with regard to the acquisition of Ramnish Electronics are not immediately known. When contacted, Raminder Singh, its managing director, said that certain formalities are yet to be completed before disclosing the details to the media.

Celestica operates a big global manufacturing network with operations in Asia, Europe and America extending to over 13 countries including Brazil, UK, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland and Thailand. It has been recognised as a low-cost producer of electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and products.
