Tour operators, travel agents and hoteliers have decided to set aside their differences and form a consortium. |
Of late, there had been a lot of bad blood among tour operators, travel agents and hotels over foreign tourists cancelling their visits owing to high hotel tariffs. |
Tour operators had complained to Tourism Minister Jagmohan that hotels had doubled room rates leading to cancellations of confirmed bookings. |
According to industry sources, a sudden jump in the tourist inflow into the country had put pressure on the hotel infrastructure in both Delhi and Mumbai. |
Senior executives from the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) and Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) met here on Wednesday to sort out their differences. |
"There have been differences over certain issues. We have decided to work together now," said Balbir S Mayal, president, TAAI. |
Industry sources said contentious issues like bouncing of confirmed bookings, raising of existing rates, late cancellations and multiple bookings were raised at the meeting. |
According to FHRAI Secretary-General Shyam Suri, the meeting emphasised the need to follow a code of practice by companies and travel agents, tour operators and hotels. Besides, it was also decided that IATO will sign the model code of practice accepted by TAAI and FHRAI. |
