Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Monday said its premium SUV Fortuner has crossed the one lakh cumulative sales mark in the domestic market, nearly eight years after it hit the Indian roads.

Launched in 2009, Fortuner has maintained its number one positioning in its segment, TKM said in a statement.

TKM Director & Senior Vice-President Marketing & Sales N Raja said: "Being able to serve more than one lakh happy customers in such a premium and competitive segment, is a huge achievement for us."

The new Fortuner also has received an overwhelming response from the market, he added.

"With over 6,000 booking orders within the first few weeks of its launch, we sold close to 2,000 units of the new Fortuner last month clocking more than 80% growth when compared to the numbers sold in the corresponding period in 2015," Raja said.

The company still has close to 5,000 pending orders which it is trying to deliver customers at the earliest possible, he added.
