Transport labourers (hamalis) at the Anakapalli jaggery market today called off their strike after traders assured them of a 14 paise hike in remuneration. The hamalis had earlier demanded a hike of 20 paise per 10 kg for loading and unloading jaggery. The market opened as usual and received nearly 20,000 lumps (each lump contains 15 kg) of jaggery. Black jaggery was sold at Rs 170-172 per 10 kg. Traders have so far stocked 500 loads worth about Rs 9 crore (each load contains 10 tonnes), KLN Rao, president, Anakapalli Jaggery Traders Association, said.
