TTK Prestige, Bangalore-based kitchen appliance maker, after successfully operating its Smart Kitchen retail format in the south is eyeing northern and eastern cities for opening more outlets.

The company has so far opened 55 outlets in less than two years through the franchise mode with a customer base of 25 million households and has set an ambitious plan to become a 100 store company by March 2006, said Chandru Kalrao, executive vice -president-marketing, TTK Prestige.

Presently, the company has minimal exposure in the north and east. Delhi has only four stores, and Jodhpur in Rajasthan has one store.

"This time around, enquiries have come and the company is eyeing Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, a few more towns in Rajasthan and in the east in and around Kolkatta," he said.

Presently, the company is operating 11 stores in Mumbai, five in the north and 40 in the south. These include 18 in Tamil Nadu, 13 in Karnataka, five in Andhra Pradesh and four in Kerala.

According to Kalrao, the company is in the process of franchising outlets across the country.

The idea is to provide a retail ambience and service that is in line with the fast-evolving retail scenario in the country.

Smart Kitchen showrooms are based on sound business models that has changed the kitchenware category.

The company has found that through the franchise model, the cost to company is minimal.

"We give the franchisee stocks, marketing and branding. He has to bring in the real estate or retail space. With this, TTK Prestige has developed the lowest brand entry strategy in the market dominated by unorganised regional players," Kalrao added.

TTK Prestige is also banking on its innovation strategy "" introduction of more designs and products every year. During the last three years, the company introduced 160 products, accounting for 80 per cent of the sales.

Since its rollout in 2003-04, Smart Kitchen has generated Rs 9 crore in sales which is part of the company's total domestic kitchen appliance sales of Rs 35 crore.
