UniverCell plans pan-India footprint

UniverCell Telecommunications Private Limited, a Chennai-based multi-branded mobile retailing chain, has drawn up a growth plan and is looking at having a pan-India presence over the next two years.
 
It intends to have 300 stores across the country, and eventually become a Rs 1,400-crore company by then.
 
The company is currently present in 61 locations across Tamil Nadu, seven in Bangalore and one at Tirupati, retailing around 70,000 units per month. It opened six mobile stores in Hyderabad on Friday.
 
Addressing mediapersons, D Satish Babu, managing director, said, "As part of our accelerated expansion phase, we plan to increase our network to 70 in Tamil Nadu, 40 each in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and 20 in Kerala, taking our total network to 170 across the country by this year end. We are in the final stages of negotiations with private equity players to raise Rs 50 crore for funding our expansion."
 
UniverCell posted a turnover of Rs 120 crore last year, and its outlook for the current financial year is Rs 793 crore.
