Universal Cables Ltd, part of the M P Birla group, has clocked in nearly a six-fold increase in net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2009, at Rs 6.79 crore from Rs 0.09 crore. Net Sales for the quarter was also higher at Rs 130.53 crore, an increase of 4.94 per cent. D R Bansal, chief executive officer, attributed the performance to improved product-mix, smart back-to-back sourcing in the face of widely fluctuating metal and commodity markets and intensive cost management actions taken in the recent past.
Graphite India net profit up 117%
Graphite India Ltd (GIL), one of the major manufacturers of graphite electrodes in the world has reported a 117 per cent increase in its net profit to Rs 63 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2009. Gross revenues stood at Rs 291 crore as against Rs 282 crore, an increase of three per cent compared to the year-ago quarter.
Kesoram net profit at Rs 36.82 crore
B K Birla group flagship has recorded a net profit of Rs 36.82 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2009, a 5.95 per cent dip from Rs 39.15 crore in the same period last year, on account of tax expenses and interest cost. The company’s profit before interest, depreciation and taxation (PBDIT) and profit before tax (PBT) stood at Rs 135.87 crore and Rs 64.83 crore, an increase of 32.88 per cent and 98.50 per cent, respectively. Net sales for the quarter increased 19.26 per cent to Rs 1,245.79 crore.
Linc Pens turnover jumps 20.4%
Writing instruments company Linc Pen reported a 20.4 per cent increase in turnover for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 to touch Rs 56.06 crore, up from Rs 46.57 crore in the corresponding previous. Profit before tax (PBT) for the company jumped 986 per cent to touch Rs 3.15 crore during the quarter under review, up from Rs 29.55 lakh in the corresponding previous.
