The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two private companies for setting up 2,380 Mw power projects in the state, an official spokesperson said here.
The MoUs were signed between the Chairman of UPPCL Navneet Sehhal and representatives of Lanco Infratech and Bjaj Hindustan in the presence of state Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta.
While Lanco will set up power projects of 1,320 Mw in Fatehpur district and 660 Mw in Anpara, Bajaj will set up units of 80 Mw at its five sugar mills in the state, with total generation capacity of 800 Mw, spokesman said.
During the meeting officials said the state government has decided to set up power projects with capacity of 25,000 Mw in the 12th Five-Year Plan.
As per the decision land has been identified in Etah, Sonbhadra, Lalitpur, Farukkhabad, Hardoi, Fatehpur, Mau, Bulandshahr and Kanpur for setting up new power projects.
"New power projects will be set up through competitive bidding and MoU on case to case basis," the spokesman said.

The state government had earlier invited applications from private parties willing to set up new projects in the state on MoU basis.
"Total 23 companies submitted their applications proposing to set up power projects of 18,415 Mw," he said.
