Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Creative Thermo Light for setting up a 600 Megawatt (Mw) thermal power plant in Chitrakoot district of Bundelkhand.

The unit, which will be set up at Murka village in Bargarh, is scheduled to start generating power in four years. UPPCL Chairman and Managing Director Navneet Sehgal said talks were on with private investors to enhance power generation capacity in Uttar Pradesh, which aims at providing 24 hours power by 2014. Recently, the state cabinet had also recommended setting up power plants of 2,500 Mw capacity. The MoU signed today was for one such project. Within a week, similar MoUs will be signed for setting up 1,320 Mw plant at Bhoganipur, 300 Mw at Farrukhabad and 1,320 Mw plant at Sandila. “Talks are already on with the respective private parties,” Sehgal said. The state will get more than 50 per cent of the power generated in these plants.
