Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) engineers have threatened strike on November 3 if issues related to promotions were not resolved within time.

The engineers’ body alleged that the UPPCL management was not promoting the ‘deserving’ engineers, while almost 330 posts in the level of executive engineer, superintendent engineer and chief engineer (level I and II) were lying vacant all over the state, especially in the general quota.

UP Rajya Vidyut Parishad Abhiyanta Sangh general secretary O P Pandey told Business Standard that the management had adopted an apathetic attitude towards the issue and they were now forced to tread the path of agitation.

In the first phase of agitation, the engineers will work for an additional 1-2 hour from October 20 to 22 to attract the attention of the UPPCL management. “However, if nothing is done, we will resort to other forms of agitation, including demonstration, ‘satyagrah’, work boycott and finally strike on November 3,” he informed.
