Mumbai-based Ushdev International Ltd is planning to set up a 9.9Mw wind farm in Theni district of Tamil Nadu at an investment of Rs 60.9 crore.
The company would procure six wind turbines of 1.65 Mw each from SVestas Wind Technology India Pvt Ltd. The project is due for completion next month.
Once the new wind farm is in place, the company’s total wind power capacity would increase to 22.83 Mw from the current 12.93 Mw, with a cumulative capital investment of around Rs 125 crore. The company has its farms in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The company, which is primarily into steel trading primarily, diversified into power generation and trading in 1994. It has a 2.53-mw wind farm with 11 turbines in Tamil Nadu
Ushdev achieved sales of Rs 1,382 crore for the financial year ended 2009 as compared with Rs 752.81 crore in 2008, an increase of 83.62 percent.
