USP opens office, lab in Hyderabad

US Pharmacopeia's (USP) office and laboratory was inaugurated today at ICICI Knowledge Park, Hyderabad, by its president, Darrell R Abernathy.

USP is a non-profit, non-governmental, standards-setting organisation that advances public health and improves patient safety by ensuring good pharmaceutical care.

According to Roger L Williams, executive vice-president and chief executive officer, USP, the new USP site in India should accelerate both USP's and India's collaborative efforts to reach mutual goals.

USP is holding its 5th annual scientific meeting in Hyderabad tomorrow, with a joint symposium sponsored by USP, Parental Drug Association and the Indian Stakeholder Forum.

The meeting will discuss matters of interest to industry scientists engaged in the manufacture, quality analysis and quality control of pharmaceutical and biotechnology products, apart from exporters, regulatory agencies and academia, a media statement said.
