In the wake of unprecedented floods in Orissa, Vedanta Group has contributed Rs 3 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Ajit Kumar Samal, vice president (commercial) of the Vedanta Group, handed over a cheque of Rs 3 crore to the state chief minister Naveen Patnaik today.

Patnaik thanked Vedanta for the support and said that more industrial houses should come forward to help people in distress.

Vedanta is also donating 20,000 tarpaulin sheets as relief material for the flood victims in various districts of Orissa.

In Puri, Vedanta University project authorities have already supplied 8 metric tonnes of polythene sheets, about 2 lakh food packets and 1 lakh water pouches to five blocks of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Samal said that Vedanta is committed to stand by the people of Orissa during this difficult time and deems it a privilege to be of any assistance in the recovery process of the flood victims.

Recently, Vedanta had provided relief materials worth Rs 2 crore to the flood affected people of North Bihar.
