West Bengal-based motorcycle maker Vibgyor Vehicles intends to sell about 1,00,000 two-wheelers next fiscal on the back of new vehicles. The firm will unveil two motorcycles at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi next month, and expects to begin commercial production at its second facility in the state in February 2010.

“A 125cc variant as well as a 150 cc bike will be showcased at the Expo and will be available for delivery in February. We expect these to help us reach our target of 1 lakh units next fiscal, through the 90-100 dealers that we will have in place by June 2010,” Vibgyor Group Chairman and Managing Director Raja Bhadra said.

Next fiscal, the company is also hopeful of exporting between 15-20 per cent of its total production to Nepal, Bangladesh and a few African nation. Currently, the company has a 100 cc motorcycle which was launched in March this year and, so far, has sold 2,500 units, primarily in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. However, it is hopeful of finishing the financial year with sales of about 10,000 units.

Vibgyor Vehicles has an existing facility at Dhulagarh, near Howrah, with a capacity of 200 units per shift, and will add another within the fiscal. “We have already acquired 35 bighas at Dankuni for our second plant, with a capacity of 350 units per shift, which is likely to begin commercial production by February next year. We have invested about Rs 25 crore for this facility,” Bhadra said.

While the entire R&D for its bikes is undertaken in-house, the company sources non-fabricated components from domestic vendors, fabricated exterior components from China and engines from a manufacturer in Taiwan.

It also plans to launch a 200 cc variant by the second half of next fiscal and is in talks with a German firm for importing engines for this motorcycle.
