Victorinox, best known as the inventors of the Swiss Army Knife, is all set to launch a first-of-its-kind premium product in the luggage and baggage segment. As a prelude to its retail expansion plans in India, the company is ready to launch 'Security Fast Pass' bags to ensure business travellers get through airport security check in an easy way.
"We will be launching a unique brief case for the business travellers in India next week. With 'Security Fast Pass' bags, the traveller can pass through airport security checks quickly. The bags have been designed with a book-style opening, to allow the bag to lay flat on x-ray belt. The traveller does not need to take out his laptop while undergoing security check everytime, thus saving time," said Anish Goel, Managing Director, Victorinox India.
The company plans to launch two models of the bag—the traditional briefcase format called Trevy and a back-pack format called Big Ben. To begin with, the product will be launched in the company's Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad's shop-in-shop outlets. In 2009, Victorinox had announced its plans to invest Rs 50 crore by 2011-12, of which it has already invested Rs 25 crore. "The rest will be invested on administration, logistics, warehousing and for more innovative products to make life easier for travellers. The company currently has 600 multi-brand outlets and shop-in-shops and we may consider increasing the number of outlets and shop-in-shops next year," Goel added.
The luxury brand is a significant global player in diverse product categories namely travel gears, fashion and clothing, cutlery, timepiece and fragrances.
The company entered India in early 2000 through a distributor and gradually opened up its India subsidiary in 2006.Victorinox India is the Indian subsidiary of Victorinox, Switzerland, the sole manufacturer of the world renowned Swiss Army Knives. Victorinox India also supplies pen knives to the Indian army.
