Electronic giant Videocon pipped four others to bag the Indian franchise of the World Series of Boxing starting next year and chose the capital as the team’s base.
“Videocon came up with the best bid, both quantitatively and qualitatively,” said WSB marketing partner, IMG’s South Asia Managing Director Ravi Krishnan. “Through this partnership we would want the Indian audience and boxers to experience change by taking Indian boxing to the level of global standards,” Videocon Industries Ltd President Pradeep Dhoot said. WSB is an intercontinental event modelled on the lines of professional boxing, where boxers would fight in five rounds of three minutes each without vests and headguards. It will have four franchisees in Asia, America and Europe.
