Vindas to invest Rs 5 cr in Indore

Firm to set up 100% export-oriented pharma unit

Pithampur-based Vindas Chemical Industries Pvt Ltd will make a fresh investment of Rs 5 crore in the Indore special economic zone (SEZ) to set up a 100 per cent export-oriented unit. The company already has its two units in Pithampur.
 
The company has sought more land area against the allotted 3,000 square metres since the unit will be bigger than the existing units in the second phase of the Indore SEZ.
 
At present Vindas manufactures formulations like famotidine, ranitidine hydrochloride, alprazolam, amlodipine, amitryptiline, salbutamol, calcium carbonate, ciprofloxacin, and chloroquine phosphate tablets of 250 mg; and chloroquine phosphate tablets, paracetamol and ibuprofen in tablets and capsules.
 
The company also makes injectible and generic drugs. It has a huge production capacity for generic brand manufacturing too and a fully equipped in house laboratory and is equipped with arrangements for quantitative analysis, spectophotometry refractometry, polarimetry, and Thin layer chromatography (TLC), Sterility test etc.
 
Speaking to Business Standard, Darshan Kataria, chairman and promoter of the company, said, "We will invest Rs 5.07 crore to increase our export basket for our existing products. The new unit will be a fully export-oriented with a capacity of 900 lakh tables, 15 lakh bottles, 75 lakh injectables and 300 lakh capsules. This unit is expected to add another US $2 million to our existing turnover."
 
At present the company has a turnover of Rs 4 crore and with this new facility the turnover will be swelled by Rs 13 crore. The new unit will employ 70-80 employees. The two existing units of Vindas currently employ 40 people.
 
"We have demanded an area of 10000 sq mt which will be made available to us. The Constriction may start this year but production will take place after two years," said Kataria.
 
The company has been awarded the Second best National Productivity award for the year 1993-94. Further, Dr Kataria has also awarded National award for Outstanding Small Scale Entrepreneur for 1996-97 on quality of products, research and development export, productivity of inputs, management and human resource development.
 
Vindas exports its medicinal products to Asian, African, CIS and many other countries all over the world.
