Virgin Comics in India with B'lore animation unitOur Bureau / Bangalore August 17, 2006Virgin Comics-New York, a collaboration involving spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, film maker Shekhar Kapur and British billionaire Richard Branson, has launched Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation in India."Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation which together have 75 artists, will be based in Bangalore and will become the company's creative content and idea incubation centre," Sharad Devarajan, CEO, Virgin comics said here today. Virgin Animation (VA), unlike traditional animation companies in India, that primarily cater to western outsourcing, has set a different path of setting up a creative powerhouse to 'reverse the funnel'. It aims to take Asian content West and showcase the array of indigenous talent in India - both writers and artists - to the world, he added.The company has identified the prevailing lack of channels for the segment, VA aims to develop IP aligned to the Indian sensibility while staying on a par with global standards, Shekhar Kapur, director of the company said.The company, through its animations unit in Bangalore has set itself on a mission to play the role in identifying talent and presenting to the West Indian mythology-related characters and stories. To begin with, the company has come out with Devi, Snake Women, Sadhu, Ramayan 3392 AD and Seven Brothers. VA
