Taking to mediapersons, he said the port was spending Rs 230 crore on deepening of entrance channel and turning circle, and the work would be completed by August. Besides, the port had decided to deepen the inner harbour channel to 14 metre and the work would be completed by December. On completion, large size Panamax vessels could enter the inner harbour, he added.
The modernisation work, which had been taken up in PPP mode, would be completed in the next two years, he said, adding, this would raise the port's handling capacity to 120 million tonnes.
